Libros de Niños Exhibition Creating the children's books was somewhat of a challenging process but well worth it. The smiles of the children and enjoyment in their eyes made the whole project really pay off. I’m very proud of my book; at the beginning of the year I knew basic phrases and at the end I actually wrote a story using the words I’ve learned. When I first started writing my story, I had lots of information but the story didn’t make that much sense. After two more drafts, I completely changed my story, but I was surprised at how much I wrote, not because it was a lot, but because it was less than the amount I begin with. My first draft had lots of writing, but after re-reading my story, I realized it didn’t make that much sense. By the second draft, I tried making a resolution to have it make more sense than before, but ended up taking parts of it out to make my final draft. I ended up making a simple yet well-put-together story that I am proud of. Although I made a nice story, I don’t believe it’s a reflection of what I learned this past year. I got a little behind in this project, but I think if I stepped up my game, I could have made a wonderful story that could have include all the vocabulary I know. Also, I rushed my drawings as well. I could have spent more time on them and made them look nicer than they do. Either way, this project made me realize how much I actually do know. I am able to have small conversations in spanish my teachers and other spanish-speaking peers. On our field trip, we read to 3rd graders and preschoolers. It was cool to see how the native spanish speakers in the classes understood our stories, and it was amazing to see them interact with my book get so excited about learning new spanish words. All-in-all, this year in Spanish 1 has been amazing, challenging, and such an educational experience for me, that I wouldn’t pass up if I were to do it again. This project made me realize I’m capable of more beautiful work, but also that with my determination, I was able to learn the basics of a new language.
